I don’t know about you, but I have been waiting for Verizon fios to stop service for over 9 months now. This is not a good thing. Verizon fios is the only local phone company who is required to provide service within 100 miles of an area code. They don’t do this because they think they are going to get a lot of customers.
Verizon fios has been slow to start up service in certain areas because they are not required to provide service within 100 miles of an area code. Instead of starting up service, many customers are having to call multiple companies to get service in their area. I have no idea how they are going to fix that.
Verizon is the only one of the three major phone companies who does this. The other two, AT&T and T-Mobile, just make calls to the same area code to increase that 100 mile limit. The only reason they do this is because they are required to.
As a general rule, when you have a contract with a major phone company, you are required to provide service within 1 mile of an area code. If you want to use that service in a neighborhood, you can do that with AT and T-Mobile in the area code, which means that your location, in comparison to AT, will be less.
Verizon, in particular, is a pain. One of the reasons this was a big deal in August is because you have to have a contract with them, which means you also have to be near a Verizon store. They have a lot of stores, and they aren’t always open.
AT and T-Mobile are trying to reduce the pain for their customers by taking over a much of the territory that their competitors have to cover. Verizon is not a phone company, and even if they were, the company is not required to provide service within 1 mile of any given area code. If they wanted to provide service, they could provide it through a different company.
Verizon is basically a phone company, so this might not be a huge issue for them, but a lot of AT and T-Mobile customers are calling (and texting) at the same time, which is very annoying. Verizon has worked hard to limit this issue, but that doesnt mean they can leave business customers without service for hours in the middle of the day.
Verizon’s service was not only down on my area, but it was down in general. Even though I live in Texas and Verizon is located in Texas, it really hurt because when I was trying to call and text my friends living in New York, they had trouble receiving voice and data service.
It doesnt sound to me like it is Verizon’s fault that people are so unhappy. At least Verizon’s customer support was nice enough to listen to our complaints. However, I would think they would have known this might happen. Maybe they were just testing the waters and waited until people were really upset before making service changes.
Verizon is a big company, and I’m sure it will take them a long time to figure out what is going on. Also, people are pissed because they have to pay more for voice and data, plus they are no longer getting calls and texts from friends and family. It still sounds like a Verizons fault to me though.
